Late Ronke Shonde's Husband Appears In Court, Says: I Did Not Kill My Wife

After studying the


comprehensive autopsy report, the Lagos State Police Command has insisted that Lekan Shonde, has a case to answer over the death of his wife, late Ronke Shonde.

But a popular human rights activist and President, Women Arise for Change Initiative, Mrs Joe Odumakin, said the group had only read media reports on the cause of Ronke’s death.

She said: “The accounts have not been that clear enough. The police will do well to make it comprehensible for the public. We want the police to do a thorough investigation to make sure the innocent is not made to suffer unjustly and the guilty does not go unpunished.”

It was also gathered that the corpse had been released to her family for burial. But a member of the family said they were not excited about Mr Lekan’s arraignment in court by the police.

The source, who did not want to be identified as the family did not want any further report on the matter, said  Ronke's mum had insisted that she had forgiven Lekan, irrespective of how her daughter died.

But police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the autopsy had shown that Lekan had a case to answer.

Mr Lekan Shonde appeared in court today and maintained that he is a victim of bad marriage, his mother before she died had warned him not to marry Ronke, but out of love he disobeyed his mother and went ahead to marry her. That was why when she started doing the "things" he accused of her of doing, he could not speak out because he had been warned earlier that she would not be a responsible wife but he didn't listen. May the good Lord deliver us from marital mistake.

Anyway, Mr Shonde has indicated his readiness to defend himself when the case commence proper on June 24.
