About 500 pro-Biafra agitators arrived at the Federal Capital Territory magistrate court on Tuesday, December 1 ordering the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The protesters chanted: “All we are saying give us Biafra” while they sang songs of solidarity when they arrived at the court premises in the early hours of the morning.
The had the flag of the defunct Biafra Republic hoisted high alongside banners with the inscription “Indigenous Peoples of Biafra”.
The mobile policemen available at the venue immediately formed a wall around the protesters to guard against any breakdown of order and prevent the protest from descending into utter chaos.
In a related event, Vincent Obetta, Kanu’s lawyer revealed to the press that the court would not sit because the presiding judge was indisposed.
The court is expected to rule on an application brought by the Department of State Services (DSS) requesting to discontinue the case for reassignment to a higher court.
“Unfortunately the court will not be sitting owing to an act of God that has befallen the magistrate. We will try to pick a date. But we have not picked a date because we have not been able to reach the magistrate.
